Brian H. Toolan, Partner

Brian combines over fifteen years of experience as an investor and entrepreneur with an in-depth understanding of middle market companies. Brian began his private equity career at J.P. Morgan Partners and its predecessor, Chase Capital Partners, focusing on leveraged buyouts and growth equity opportunities in the consumer and healthcare markets. He has also acted as a principal and advisor as a Managing Director at Crystal Ridge Partners. Earlier in his career, he was an investment banker in the Corporate Finance division of Jefferies & Company. As an entrepreneur, Brian held leadership roles at Creative Homeowner, a family-owned book and web publishing company focused on the home improvement market, which was sold to Courier Corporation. During his tenure, he restructured operations, increased revenue, and significantly improved profitability. He is also CEO of TPC Interactive.

Brian received his B.A. and B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.


Julie A. Appleton, Partner

Julie brings extensive hands-on management experience at a number of growth-oriented, middle market businesses, including both consumer-oriented and business services companies. While at Starbucks Corporation from 2000 to 2004, Julie advised on the North American expansion strategy and participated in its execution, growing store count from approximately 3,500 to nearly 10,000 during her tenure. An attorney, Julie served as counsel at Linens 'n Things during its acquisition in 2006. Additionally, as an associate at Riker Danzig, a large regional law firm in the New York area, she has represented numerous middle market clients in the negotiation, development, disposition, and restructuring of their real estate holdings. More recently, she has managed a marketing team at a closely held and rapidly growing business services company. Earlier in her career, Julie was a management consultant at Meaghan Jared Partners, a Seattle-based management consulting firm focusing on healthcare institutions.

Julie is a member of the bars of New Jersey and Federal District Court. She holds a B.A. from George Washington University and a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University.

Hank plays an active leadership role in the execution of the firm's overall strategy while remaining actively engaged in completing transactions and coaching senior management of the firm's portfolio companies. Prior to joining Araquot, Hank was Founder & President of Creative Homeowner, a book and web publishing company focused on the home improvement market. Under Hank's leadership, Creative Homeowner evolved from a regional book distributor into a leading niche publisher under its own brand for home improvement, decorating, and gardening books. Earlier in his career, he was a financial analyst covering the housing sector at W.R. Pressprich, an investment bank, and an auditor at Price Waterhouse.

Hank is a CPA and holds a B.A. from Manhattan College and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.
